Obsidian Coating Warranty
When a professional installer puts on an Obsidian coating and registers it, the car gets a written limited warranty with no deductible. This page sums up how it works. Your signed warranty is the actual contract, and if anything here reads differently, the signed warranty wins.
How long it lasts
Your term is the plan term printed on your signed warranty. These are the standard terms for each coating:
- Obsidian Select: 7 years
- Obsidian Prime: 5 years
- Obsidian Pro: 3 years
- Interior Coating: 3, 5 or 7 years, depending on the plan bought
Coverage runs from the applied date on your warranty. It only applies to the surfaces your plan lists, and only once the installer has registered it. You can look up a registered coating under My warranties.
What's covered
On an exterior plan, coated factory paint is covered against fading, oxidation and loss of gloss caused by sun, acid rain, road and sea salt, bugs, bird droppings, hard water spots, ocean spray, paint overspray and tree sap. The plan also covers headlight lenses that fade or yellow, and alloy wheel corrosion or brake dust staining, up to $400 per wheel and $1,600 total.
On an interior plan, coated fabric, carpet, vinyl and leather are covered against stains from spilled drinks, food, and oil or water-based liquids, plus rips, tears, scratches and burns up to 2 inches across.
How a covered claim is fixed
The warranty company decides whether a claim is approved and how it gets fixed. That can mean cleaning, polishing, repairing or, for paint, repainting the damaged area and then recoating it. Polishing paint damage out may be tried first and can count as the fix. Your installer may do the work, or the warranty company may send the car to another shop.
During a covered repair, rental car costs are reimbursed up to $50 a day and $250 over the life of the warranty.
Total payouts for all claims combined are capped at $2,500 or the car's J.D. Power average trade-in value at the time of the claim, whichever is less. Repainted parts may not match the original paint exactly, and color mismatch isn't covered.
Your part
Keep the car washed and maintained the way its manufacturer recommends, and clean off bird droppings, tree sap and other contaminants promptly. Routine cleaning is on you. The warranty doesn't pay for it.
Report any damage within 60 days of noticing it. Damage reported after 60 days isn't covered.
Don't have damage repaired before you get written approval. Repairs done without it won't be reimbursed.
Starting a claim
Call or text us at (667) 213-1673 and we'll help you get the claim to the warranty company. Have your warranty handy. You may be asked for photos of the damage and proof that you own the car.
If you sell the car
The warranty can be transferred once. The new owner mails a copy of the original warranty, their name, address and phone number, and a $50 transfer fee to the warranty company at the address below. Once transferred, coverage lasts one year from the date of the transfer request. It can't be transferred to a car dealer.
What isn't covered
Damage that existed before the coating was applied. Rust of any kind, including rust from chips, scratches or failing paint, seam rust, and rust on inward-facing panels like door jambs, inner door panels, hood and trunk undersides, and truck beds. Damage from commercial use. Theft, vandalism, collision, fire, war and other natural disasters. Abuse or neglect. Manufacturer defects in the car's design, workmanship or materials. Finishes that were modified from the factory original. Loss from unauthorized access to, or changes to, the car's software or electronics.
The warranty also doesn't cover lost time or pay, inconvenience, storage, loss of use of the car, lodging, meals or other travel costs.
Legal terms
This is a limited product warranty, not insurance. Buying it is not a condition of financing a vehicle.
The warrantor is North American Auto Care, Attn: Interior / Exterior Protection, 5900 S. Lake Forest Dr., Ste. 300, McKinney, TX 75070, (877) 484-6222, northamericanautocare.com. Its obligations are insured by Old Republic Insurance Company. Obsidian Products sells the coating and helps owners start claims, but it is not the warrantor and takes on no obligation under this warranty. No one, including Obsidian Products or an installer, can change or add to its terms.
Repair is the only remedy under this warranty. Any implied warranty of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose lasts only as long as this written warranty. Incidental and consequential damages are not covered. Some states don't allow limits on how long an implied warranty lasts, or the exclusion of incidental or consequential damages, so those limits may not apply to you. This warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may have other rights that vary by state.
